a) The four generic information systems which are used across industry and commerce to support organisational activities are -

1.Transaction processing systems.

To support the processing of business transactions, the transaction processing systems (TPS) are used in the organizations.Some transactions,like placing orders, customers billing, hiring employees, keeping employee record etc., are common to all organizations.

2. Knowledge work systems.

It helps the knowledge workers to create and transmit  new information and knowledge by providing them with graphic tools, analytical methods, communications, and document management tools.

Examples of knowledge work systems are computer-aided design (CAD)systems, virtual reality systems, and financial workstations.

3.Decision support system

Decision support system helps in making decisions by working and analyzing data that can produce   data models and various projections.This system gives support not by than replacing a managers judgement while improving the quality of a managers decision. A DSS helps solve problems while using external data.
