17. A) retinoblastoma is autosomal dominant mutation of RB1 gene that means only one copy of mutated allele is enough to cause the disease. If the mother is cancer free she does not have mutated allele and the father has retinoblastoma, he might either have both RB1 alleles mutated or only 1 allele is mutated.

If the father has both the alleles in mutated form the next child has 100 percent chance of developing retinoblastoma and if he has only 1 allele mutated, the next child has 50 percentage chance of developing disease.

B) the retinoblastoma can be either unilateral or bilateral in the next child

C) unilateral means the person has only 1 eye with cancer and bilateral means the person has both the eyes with cancer. Occurence of unilateral or bilateral has nothing to do with inheritance pattern
