Answer #1

1. b.C1INH The lack of this esterase keeps the complement system constantly activated which leads to formation of bradkynin which dilates blood vessels and causes angioedema.

2.b.opsonin mediated phagocytosis . Antibody contains receptors for opsonin , and opsonisation is is done by complement mediated system.

3.b. Radial immunodiffusion is used to quantify antigen by measuring the thickness of precipitation zone it forms upon reacting with the antibody in wells made on a gel.

4. b. Secondary immune response. It acts against antigens from bacteria, virus etc. which have previously attacked the host.

5. RBCs sensitised with IgG in vitro

6. Sandwich elisa. In this technique the antigen in the fluid is captured in between two antibodies, one of which is lined to a conjugate.

7. e. Both B and O blood groups have anti -A circulating. O does not have any antigens on RBC and B has B antigen hence they have antibodies against A which is not present in their RBCs.

8. Postzone. Excess antigen prevents interaction with antibodies

9. d. Both postzone and prozone. Prozone is when antibody is in excess and postzone is formed when antigen is in excess

10. a.1+. Very small clumps are graded 1+ and large agglutinates are graded 4+. Agglutination occurs best between 4- 20 degrees

11.b. CDR3 complex is responsible for specific binding of TCR to antigen

12. Antibody excess will result in prozone phenomena.

13. d. 2-5% is ideal to detect antibodies resent in low amounts .

14. Since anti A, anti B are 0 RBCs do not have an antigen hence it Is O group. Since Anti D is present it is C. o positive

Background INFO There are four types of blood: A, B, AB, and O (Figure 4). Each is characterized by the glycoproteins (proteins with a sugar attached) and lipoproteins (proteins with a lipid attached) embedded in the surface of red blood cells (RBCs). In addition to type, blood can be rhesus (Rh) factor positive or negative. These proteins are inherited and may differ from individual to individual. If, during a transfusion, an individual receives blood with the incorrect RBC proteins (for...
