When taken into the body alters the body in some way.

Explanation:

A drug is a substance when taken into the body alters the body functions in some way.

It does not change genetic structure, if it does then it the effect of the drug will pass to offsprings also. Some drugs can cross blood-brain barrier also.


2) Alcohol is classified as

The Controlled Substance Act (CSA) classified various drugs into five categories (or schedules). Alcohol and tobacco are not classified as they not part of this. They are called as drugs and cause physical harm also.

SCHEDULE I have highest potential for abuse. They have no medical use and are considered unsafe such as marijuana, LSD, heroin.

SCHEDULE II have high potential for abuse. They have medical use but with restrictions. These drugs may lead to dependence such as Cocaine, Opium.

SCHEDULE III have less abuse potential. They have accepted medical use and may lead to some dependence such as Tylenol.
