E.coli acts as a natural pesticide by producing some proteins that induce the death of pests. These proteins are insecticidal in nature, when the pest digest these proteins , on reaching the gut it got activated and got converted to active formof toxin due to the alkaline pH of the gut. These activated toxins binds to the surface of midgutepithelial cells and create pores causing the cell to swell and lysis and eventually leading to the death of the pest.
