Hello, I am Biology student studying biotechnology so I want example and guidelines on how to write formal lab report.

The experiment finding of a biology report have to be present in an organized manner. You should follow the below mentioned steps to write a formal biology lab report.

1. Title page;

• It should be brief, concise and gives a clear idea of the experiment.
• Be sure to include the names of all the individual who performed the experiment.
• Below your name add your class, roll no. and the name of your instructor/tutor.

2. Introduction;

• It should describe the problem and explain the scope and purpose of your study.
• Then you should describe the hypothesis. In the hypothesis you can mention about the expected outcome from the study and the observed outcome eg., "we hypothesize that....." "The observation shows...".
• Include any background information related to that experiment for eg., the inadequate knowledge about a chemical which forced you to perform the experiments to gain appropriate knowledge.
• Also define any abbreviations or terminology.
• You may also include an abstract though it is not mandatory.

3. Materials and methods;

• Describe about all the reagents, equipment's and apparatus which you used during the experiment.
• Describe in details in a step by step way the whole procedure which you followed during the experiment.
• This part should be describe in past tense.

4. Inference;

• Describe about your result in this section.
• This section describe the finding of your experiment.
• You can explain your result with text data as well as through charts, tables and graphs.
• Any graphical presentation have to be explain for eg., "the drug effect was maximal at 2 hrs. after its administration and started to wane off after a certain point".
• Your data should be in an organized and easy to understandable manner.
• Label all your charts and graphs and tables.

5. Conclusion;

• Write a brief summary of what you did, how you did and what you got.
• Explain about any deviation which might have occur during your experiment.
• Draw a conclusion about your hypothesis. This is where you tell your reader about your perspective regarding the results and how it affects your hypothesis viz. whether your hypothesis is passed or failed depending on your result.

6. References;

• Mention all the articles, books and other literature works which you cited as a reference for carrying out your experiment.

7. Formatting;

• Last but not the least, properly format your report.
• Look out for any grammatical or typo mistake.
• Check whether all the points are numbered and referenced accordingly.
• Don't forget to include an index page and mentioning page numbers.
