Cell junctions are multiprotein complexes that provides adherence between any two cells or between a cell and extracellular matrix in animal tissues

Adherens cell junctions or desmosomes and hemidesmosomes provide mechanical strength by holding the cell together

Adherens junctions have anchoring cells characters through their cytoplasmic actin filaments. desmosomes and hemidesmosomes and thuer transmembrane anchors are composed of cadherins in those that anchor to other cells and integrins in those that anchor to extracellular matrix of epithelial tissue

If only mechanical cell junctions are available and not the communicating and occluding cell junctions in epithelilal cells it cannot communicate with the neighbouring cells are move
