During a particularly hot summer the terrarium’s thermostat broke and the temperature increased by 2 degrees without the breeder realizing it. The dragon breeder, however, noticed that some of his animals developed red stripes during this summer. When he crossed a striped male to a non-striped female, he found only non-stripped offspring. When he crossed a non-striped male to a striped female he found an equal mixture between striped and non-striped offspring. When he realized that the thermostat was broken, the temperature was set to normal and the striped animals lost their stripes. What explains these observations?

The only possible explanation is the observed red strips are sex linked recessive trait only shown in increased temperature.
