Answer #1

Two traits in plants which are determined by the physiological processes in the crop plants are:-

  1. Seed germination of the plant is a trait which is determined by the physiological process of the crop plant. Whether the plant can germinate the seed by overcoming the plant dormancy when provided the suitable condition is a physiological trait. As there is more flow of water, the seed coats tend to imbibe more water and it leads to germination of the seed by growing the embryo root tip. When there is not enough water, it is unable to maintain the turgor pressure.
  2. Another trait which is determined by physiological process is wilting of the plant. It is found that when there is very high rate of transpiration due to the prolonged opening of the stomata on the leaves, it leads to increase escape of water during daytime. This reduces the water content as the plant loses more water due to the same and hence causes the wilting of the plant. The sturdy elongation of stem and the leaves is marked by the rate of transpiration.
