Healthy intake and output levels to maintain water balance is quite necessary. About 2.5 to 4 litres of water is quite necessary for daily intake. This signifies the normal level of water intake in our body to ensure water balance in our body. Water provides us with ions which helps in maintaining healthy ionic balance in our body. The ions are used up in many metabolic processes. The output levels of water through urine is approximately 1500 ml/day while other levels could vary from 400-800 ml/day. These are necessary for normal body physiology.
Safety concerns about our water supply-
• The water which is supplied to us must not contains harmful chemicals which are used to bleach impurities present in the water.
• Impurities free water should be supplied but the process through which it is purified should be a free from excessive use of chemicals. It should also be free from harmful ions.
• Water supply should be continuous without any further complications and the supply system should be adequately checked on daily basis.
Minerals can be classified as major minerals and trace minerals.Major ones are calcium, phosphorus potassium, sodium, chloride and magnesium.Trace minerals are copper, zinc , molybdenum , cobalt etc.
The conditions of the body, dietary factors, and other pertinent relationships that influence the absorption, retention and availability of specific minerals are-
• Conditions of body like if the person is suffering from disease , any physiological changes effects the absorption of minerals accordingly. Sometimes lack or excessive mineral absorption causes problems with health.
• Dietary factors and other relationships like what kind of minerals constitute the major portion of individual's diet, chemical forms of minerals, supplement taken along side the diet effects the absorption of minerals . While being on drugs or unprescribed medicines, this might lead to negative effects on health.Sometimes minerals get used up excessively due to any disturbance in body physiology. Increased bioavailability is very important for the better absorption, retention and availability of specific minerals.
