Answer #1

36. The proteins that are attached to the outer half of proteins are called peripheral proteins or outer proteins and these are in contact with surface. These proteins usually have glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI) anchors and these GPI anchored proteins are associated with lipid rafts and also take part in transmembrane signalling processes. The option b is correct.

37. The unfolded and misfolded proteins are recognized and are degraded in the cell. The unfolded proteins accumulate in endoplasmic reticulum lumen and to degrade the unfolded proteins various signalling processes are stimulated and these include increased activity of proteasomes that can degrade the unfolded and misfolded proteins. The option c is correct.

Please answer letter B! 1. (1.5 pts) Entering the ER: Translocation of proteins across the membrane of the ER is usually studied using microsomes (vesicles made from rough endoplasmic reticulum. Microsomes of the rough ER carry ribosomes attached to their outer surface. Translocation of proteins across the microsomal membrane can be assessed by several experimental criteria: (1) the newly synthesized protein is protected from added proteases, but not when detergents are present to solubilize the protecting lipid bilayer; (2) the...
