Real world work situations can result in some of the best learning experiences that we retain as life lessons. In an online environment it can be difficult to pass on things with informal communication to each other. For this discussion board, I would like for everyone to share their stories, advice and insight for being a good manager or leader. Sometimes it’s the simplest thing that can make the difference between a horrible boss and a great one. What tactics have you seen work and what have you seen fail? Any stories about great or bad managers and if so what made them so good/bad? Some of the best advice came to me while I was in grad school. I had a professor (PhD from UNC) tell the class that he could sum up a four year degree in Management in one sentence. I still remember that sentence verbatim; “The key to being a good manager is for all employees to perceive that they are being treated equally.” While it seems simple enough, I have found it to be true in my experiences. Here are some more that seem like common sense but are missed often: All managers should have an anonymous suggestion box. Promote communication and don’t get upset when an employee gives you bad news. It will prevent the truth from coming to you in the future. Small things like appearance and the way you speak can set a tone. Always maintain a boundary between being a boss and a friend. Proofread your emails, memos, and letters. The customer is not always right but don’t get into an argument with them in front of other customers.
A good manager or leader is supposed to be encouraging and motivating for the team to achieve the assigned goals and purposes. It is important to give the team with clear directions and support for work and mobilising their efforts and resources. A good manager and leader communicates with their team about the organisational plans and visions and is fair and just in their actions and advise to the team members. They give opportunity to diverse individuals and encourage everyone to perform to best of their abilities. They set best standards performance and expect the team members to excel in their efforts and set new goals for growth and achievement. The failure of managers is when they themselves cannot set good examples for their team and become role models. It leads to creating a culture of slackness and gaps in the performance of the business and employees. Good leaders in business in current times are transformational who communicate individually, empathise with their team members, provide them a vision for work, motivate and empower them to achieve the goals.

INTERPRETING THE REAL LIFE STORY: Michael’s Experience I used to fall for every “get thin quick” ad I saw on television. I bought diet pills, supplements, exercise equipment, and many other items that were advertised as causing quick and easy weight loss while still being able to eat whatever you wanted. I would always start using the product with a lot of enthusiasm, only to realize after a short time that it didn’t work at all. In the case of...
Barcelona Restaurant Group Summary: Barcelona Restaurant Group is always trying to attract and retain only those employees who reinforce its service-oriented culture and provide top quality customer service. The manager being interviewed in the video is constantly recruiting and hiring new employees and letting low performers and poor fits go. He also tries to provide job candidates with a realistic description of the company's expectations to ensure that they know what they would be getting into if they took a...
Define the problem: At the company I currently work for communication is a huge issue. No one seems to directly communicate and oftentimes things are missed or people’s feels are hurt. There are three marketing departments that work on separate projects, but oftentimes have to work cross functionally together. There is often times where one department head will tell me one thing and then another one something else. This usually has to do with an assignment I am working on...

1. Some might say it was bad luck. Others will tell you it’s life and you’d better get used to it. You’ve just gotten a new team leader, and within the first week, it was clear to everyone that she is as “autocratic” as can be. The previous leader was very “democratic,” and so is the higher-level manager, with whom you’ve always had a good working relationship. Is there anything you and your co-workers can do to remedy this situation...

I would definitely say I have had a close friend in my life who was very manipulative. She would want me to only spend time with her, and none of my other friends. Not only this, but she always made me feel bad for hanging out with my other friends or family. I would always have to reiterate to her that I do have other friends...
In my management business class, I wrote some short essay Can you check my grammar below paper? I think that the maintenance of loyal customers and the service of companies are deeply related and really important in making continuous marketing. In our life, we all experienced several services. Some times it's a good experience for us. Otherwise, it's the worst experience. I have lots of bad service quality experiences in my past. I really like to share one incident here....
Hello, my name is Iron Man. Thanks for volunteering to help me with my taxes for this year. My business manager says we should start with my Gross Income – whatever that means. I have had a pretty good year so I am excited to see what my tax return looks like. I got a promotion to manager for Thanos Infinity Chips Inc. in January. I earned $78,000 in base salary this year. I get a lot of fringe benefits...
I believe that the only argument for genetically engineering children comes in one form. And that is, imagine the diseases we could prevent and imagine the transmission of genetically handed down diseases we could stop if we decided how the genetic code looked and operated? The idea in of itself is intoxicating. You'd be preventing future heartache or maybe even heartache from birth by taking out the genes that would inevitably cause more harm than good in the child. In...
