The two factors which determines the stability of the alpha helix are following:

* Steric hinderances: The presence of R chain on the exterior side in the alpha helix reeuce the steric hinderances in aloha helix. In this way, it determines the stability of the alpha helix.

* Hydrogen bond: The presence of hydrogen bond stabilises the alpha helix

That's why statement is false. Because side chain determines the alpha helix stability.
