1. sugar molecules cannot pass through the membrane only solvent can pass through. Selective permeability defines the passage of particular solute through the membrane. this happens in may ways such as active, passive and facilitated diffusion.
2. Temperature directly affect the osmosis. increasing temperature increases the molecular movement of the solvent. so this increases the solvent diffusion. This is due to the increased diffusivity and reduced viscosity of solvent due to increased temperature.
3. In osmosis in general the system tries to attain the equilibrium until the concentration on both the side is equal.
4. osmosis is happening due the water potential. Pure water has higher potential than a solute. So always water tends to move towards the solution to attain equilibrium. So concentration plays a very important role in osmosis.
5. When a cell is put into a hypertonic solution(higher conc.than the cell), it tends to loose its water and shrink. this causes plamolysis. So if salad dressing is added earlier this may cause the lettuce leaf cells to shrink.
6. 100- 3.56 = 96.44% water will be there in pacific ocean. If we drink ocean water, our cells may tend to loose its water to dilute the concentrated solution into the gut (ocean water). This causes diarrhoea sometimes death due to dehydration.
7. In general salt water fish does not survive in fresh water due to osmotic imbalance in cells.

CRITICAL THINKING QUESTIONS 1. A pre-weighed dialysis bag which contained a solution of 10% glucose was placed in a beaker containing a solution of 20% glucose. After one hour, the bag was weighed again a. Calculate the % mass change of this dialysis bag from the following information: • Mass of bag before experiment: 15.39 • Mass of bag after experiment: 12.79 b. Determine the tonicity of the beaker when it is compared to the dialysis bag: 2. facell had...

Homework In this assignment you will be asked questions about water and osmotic pressure. Complete the assignment as directed and post your answer to the message board. Remember, do not upload files, I may not be able to open them so just leave everything on your post for me to read. You may use internet resources to respond but do not, that is do not, copy and paste from web sites. Also, using quotes does not make something your own...

Hi there! I need to compare two essay into 1 essay, and make it interesting and choose couple topics which im going to talk about in my essay FIRST ESSAY “Teaching New Worlds/New Words” bell hooks Like desire, language disrupts, refuses to be contained within boundaries. It speaks itself against our will, in words and thoughts that intrude, even violate the most private spaces of mind and body. It was in my first year of college that I read Adrienne...
