Discussion Two: Application
Assume the role of an HR Manager. An employee comes to your office and complains that she is unhappy with her most recent performance review meeting with her manager. She says she was evaluated on performance goals that were never communicated to her and have nothing to do with her job description. In fact, she says her manager never gave her any specific goals and she has not received any performance feedback in over a year. She assumed she was performing well. Her manager says that her overall performance is unsatisfactory and wants to put her on a performance improvement plan.
How would you handle this employee’s complaint? What information and data would you need to gather from this employee’s manager? Discuss in detail the steps you would take to resolve this issue.
Be sure to provide the references for the sources of the information you used including the material provided in the classroom.
Make sure to also respond to two students with thoughtful comments.
The first step that I would take is to assure the employee that the problem would be addressed soon. Then, I would talk to the employee manager to obtain reports on-
- Job description provided to the employee
- Job analysis report on which the employee’s performance was reviewed
- A comparison of the job description and job analysis report would be made
- If there is any discrepancy, then the manager would be intimated the same and avoid any further steps to be taken for placing the employee in the performance improvement plan.
- The employee would then be provided with the appropriate job description to perform the role as expected. Additionally, the employee would be moved to a different team to avoid any conflict between the employee and the manager.
- As the HR manager, I would suggest the employee manager to re-evaluate the performance review discrepancy in the job description provided.
Note- Please note the post above is written based on my experience and knowledge and there is no references to be mentioned. Thank you.
