A 2-pole, 20MW single phase induction machine used for driving a train has a slip of 4.12%, when it is delivering 80% of its rated torque and 15.6MW. The rotor speed at the rated torque/power is 3415 rpm.

(i) Determine the synchronous speed of the motor, under the above conditions, as well as the frequency required by the power electronics in the drive

(ii) If the torque and synchronous speed were kept constant under the above conditions, calculate the load power that the motor would be supplying, if the slip was reduced by a fifth (i.e. 20%).
