Both the cells of nervous system and muscular system exhibit the property, excitability to the highest degree. Thus, they are described as excitable tissues. The functional unit of muscular system is, muscle cells.

The different functions of muscular system are given below:

1. Motion: Muscles support bones and thus, they provide body movement and shape of the body.

2. Thermogenesis: Muscle contraction produces heat, and is very essential for the maintenance of body temperature.
