Answer #1

One of the animals that lives in grasslands are the hippos.

It has recently discovered that the common ancestor of these semi aquatic- herviborous mammal, belongs to the family of

ANTHRACOTHERES: they lived in Africa 2 to 40 millions ago. They are semi aquatic, herbivorous mammals, classified as artiodactyl ungulate as hippos and with a similar anatomy of lower jaw

Some fossil teeth of this ancestor shares characteristics with the particular structure of hippo´s teeth: thick, high crowned molars wear down in clover shape.

You identify a gene (gene 1) in once species (species 1) that shares significant homology to a gene (gene 2) in a second species (species 2). Species 1 and species 2 share a common ancestor. Gene 1 and Gene 2 lie within in blocks of sequences that show synteny between the two species. You determine the number and identity of synonymous and non-synonymous sequence changes in the coding sequences when comparing the two genes. From these data alone (i.e., without...

Answer question number three. This information may be useful. These are the questions before. Not sure if they play a part. 3. Now construct a matrix of shared derived features for the phyla data set in Table 4: Remember that this matrix is based on shared derived traits/States so you need to count the total number of times in which the two phyla share the non-ancestral (derived) States in Table 3 (i.e. they are both coded with a 1 or...

The following statements apply to concepts and material discussed in Chapter 15; identify which statement is TRUE. Answers: A common ancestor of two species on evolutionary trees can be found at the point where the two branches meet. Humans evolved from Neanderthals about 50,000 years ago. Mitochondrial DNA is not particularly useful when trying to determine the movement pattern of humans historically across the globe. Scientists can estimate when species diverged from a common ancestor by comparing their Karyotypes. We...
