Differentiate shopping for services and shopping for products. Would you classify yourself as a careful or careless shopper of services?
The differences between shopping for services and shopping for products are:
(1) Products are tangible while services are intangible, i.e. products can be seen and touched while services cannot be seen and touched.
(2) A product can be returned to the seller if the customer is not happy with the product but a service cannot be returned to the seller after the service has been performed and if the customer is not happy with the service.
(3) The value of the product is created by the buyer i.e. the buyer can see the product and take the decision if he needs the product and buys it accordingly. The value of the service is creater by the seller i.e. the seller knows how much effort he needs to provide that service and price it accordingly.
(4) A product can be owned by the customer after buying it but a service cannot be owned by the customer after buying it since it is invisible in nature and it can only be felt.
I would say, I am a careful shopper of services. This is because when I buy a service, I see how reliable is the source where I am buying the service from, how is their customer care support which I would need to contact if I am not happy with their service. For the price they are charging, I compare all the competitors service prices and all other factors such as quality of the service and brand name to arrive at the final decision of whether I should or should not buy that service.
