Answer #1

A researchers discovered a significant correlation between

Students study hours and GPA and wants to see if work ho is our third variable that explains this obssrved correlation

a) what is strength and direction of the correlation coefficient below.

X : study hours

Y :GPA

Z : Work

rXY =0.274

It is positive correlation relationship between X and Y

Strength is weak that is less than 0.50 and direction is positive. Here as X increases Y also increases.

rXZ = - 0.304

It is negative correlation relationship between X and Z Strength is weak that is less than 0.5 and direction is negative as X increases Z decreases or vice versa

Similarly

rYZ = - 0.380

It is negative relationship between Y and Z strength is weak that is less than 0.5 and direction is negative as Y increases Z decreases or vice versa.
