certificates for an upcoming graduation ceremony at the USB. You know that there is one big
competitor in this space that may also place a bid for this contract, and estimate that your
probability of getting the contract goes down from 70% to 40% if they also bid on the contract,
and that they bid on contracts 75% of the time.
a) Based on your calculations you have determined that it will only be worthwhile to
place this bid if the probability of you getting the contract is 45% or more, Should you
go ahead and place this bid? (3)
b) If you do get the contract, what is the probability that your competitor did not place a
bid? (3)
c) Are these events dependant or independent? Substantiate your answer, (2)
