For any kind of maintenance window, it is important to have a proper plan especially looking into the matter of the downtime of the infrastructure. The planning must be done by looking at the impact the maintenance cause to the business. If the maintenance work is comparatively less, then there will be very less downtime, but if the maintenance operation is critical, then there will be a longer downtime of the infrastructure. During the maintenance window, all the network to the internet will be down and no one can access anything. Performing the maintenance operation during night when the business will be remain low.

First of all, before undergoing any maintenance operation, there should be a proper planning in the form of documentation and that plan should consider all the details that are to be performed on this maintenance window. The testing environment should also remain active so that if any patches goes into the production that should first tested in the testing environment.
