A guest speaker in class states “managers should only focus their attention on what shareholders want because they are the owners of the firm and the managers work for the shareholders”. Offer your view on this statement based on your readings, life experiences, and ethics.
I believe that there is no doubt in stating the fact, that shareholders should be given attention but along with that there are other aspects as well. I personally believe from my professional experience that a manager in order to be effective needs to focus their attention on all of the stakeholders of the business and they are the organization itself, the clients and the employees too. The business will benefit when the clients provide and revenue and it is possible only when the employees work for delivering the same as well and therefore the managers need to ensure that they consider all of them important and instead of focusing only on the shareholders, they need to focus more on the factors that will improve business and automatically help the shareholders earn more from the organization.
