Arrange the following keywords into a concept map: CML, Bcr–Abl, imatinib, tyrosine kinase, dasatinib, reciprocal chromosomal translocation, fusion pro- tein, granulocyte, erythrocyte, hematopoetic stem cell, splenomegaly.
Please provide the concept map with explanation. Thanks
The concept map is shown in figure. The concept map is explained
here.Chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML), also
known as chronic myeloid leukemia, is a form of leukemia
characterized by the increased and unregulated growth of myeloid
cells in the bone marrow and the accumulation of these cells in the
blood. Though no obvious causes are known,CML is linked to a
genetic abnormality called reciprocal chromosomal
translocation. In hematopoietic stem
cells, parts of chromosomes(9 th and
22nd) switch places. This results in a fused gene
BCR-ABL
encoding a fusion
protein that functions like a tyrosine kinase. This
fusion protein is continuously active. It activates cell cycle
pathways speeding up cell division and inhibits DNA repair, causing
genomic stability. Symptoms often appear in later stages which
include drastic increase in count of granulocytes,
splenomegaly
and decrease in count of erythrocytes.
Treatment methods target tyrosine
kinase function of the BCR-ABL fusion protein. .
Initially imanitib(tyrosine
kinase inhibitor) was found to inhibit progression of CML in
majority of patients. Dasatinib,
another tyrosine kinase inhibitor drug is administered to patients
who are either resistant to Chronic myelogenous
