Schemas are cognitive frameworks that help us to organize and interpret information.Eventhough schemas are mental shortcuts that simplify the vast information around us,such schemas also have a large number of disadvantages.Some of these are:
1.Such mental frameworks cause us to exclude certain important information just because they are not consistent with our existing beliefs.Any information if not consistent with our schemas gets no attention.
2.Another important disadvantage is that schemas promote stereotyping and prejudice against certain groups.
Eg:When we have a schema about a certain group, that they are very aggressive ,we may believe that the members of that group actually behave in that manner even in the face of contradicting evidences
