Preinitiation complex is a complex of approximately 100 proteins. That is necessary for transcription of protein coding genes.

The minimal Preinitiation complex include RNA polymerase 6 general transcription factors.

TFIIA TFIIB TFIID TFIIE TFIIF TFIIH.

This is a chain process.

TFIIB is located in ~9A° of -2 site of promoter DNA.

TFIIB recruited by TATA Binding protein.

TFIIB recruits RNA polymerase and TFIIF to the promoter.

Xray crystallographic studies conducted to know role of each.

When Transcription Factor IIB was omitted, TFIIF-RNA polymerase complex was not recruited.

So ommision of TFIIB in Preinitiation complex will prevent transcription. Resulting in abortive transcript.
