Genetically modified organisms are called GMOs. In these organisms, such as plants, animals, or microorganisms in which the DNA (genetic material) that do not occur naturally by mating and or natural recombination. The technology is often called “recombinant DNA technology” or “genetic engineering” or modern biotechnology” or “gene technology.” Genetically modified organisms allow selected individual genes to be transferred from one organism into another, also between nonrelated species. Foods produced from or using organisms genetically are often referred to as GM foods. To create genetically modified organisms, we change specific characteristics by using lab techniques to delete or alter particular sections of DNA. Organisms that have been genetically modified include microorganisms such as bacteria and plants, yeast, fish, insects, and mammals. GMOs are mostly used in food, especially in processed foods, because staple crops such as soybeans and corn are nearly all modified.
