A selective pressure have either a survival or a disadvantage. Though, many of the phenotypic variation are neutral they don't give a benefit or disadvantage.

Selective pressure alter the behaviour and fitness of living organisms within a given environment..Some cases, competing selective pressure leads to phenotypic change, that alters perfect adaptation for a purticular purpose. This leads to avoid competition between organisms but not meant for survive and reproduce. Hedgsdog's antipredatory strategy (rolling into a ball) is helpful to avoid predator but not very useful to cross the road.
