The media can manipulate, influence, persuade and pressurize society, along with even controlling the world at times in both positive and negative ways; mentally, physically and emotionally. They play a role in changing the mindset of the people by showing the information they want the others to perceive. They shape the lives of the people. All the trends of fashion world reach to the common man via media only. People living in the villages are aware of the recent developments around the world due to media coverage. All our actions and responses are influenced by the mass media. Some citizens view some forms of mass media as scared, for instance, for a cricket fan, to watch the sports section in a newspaper or television might be the most important thing of the day and he would never want to compromise on it. Some people might be in a habit to switch on the television early morning first thing to start their day. They might feel incomplete without doing this exercise. That is how Durkheim's definitions are used here.
