Be sure to answer all parts Urea, (NH2)2CO, is used as a nitrogen release fertilizer; many soil bacteria contain the enzyme urease, which catalyzes the hydrolysis of urea into carbon dioxide and ammonia. The Michaelis constant, KM, for urease is 2 × 10−3 M and k2 = 2.5 × 104 s−1 under a specific set of conditions.

(a) Calculate the initial rate of reaction if the concentration of urea is 2.5 × 10−5 M and the urease concentration is 7.0 × 10−6 M. Report your answers to the correct number of significant figures.

(b) What is the maximum rate of reaction?

    10. Write a one-page summary of the attached paper? INTRODUCTION Many problems can develop in activated sludge operation that adversely affect effluent quality with origins in the engineering, hydraulic and microbiological components of the process. The real "heart" of the activated sludge system is the development and maintenance of a mixed microbial culture (activated sludge) that treats wastewater and which can be managed. One definition of a wastewater treatment plant operator is a "bug farmer", one who controls the aeration...
