Using YUKL, critically discuss the benefits and challenges of transformational/transformative leadership in higher education and how charismatic, ethical, servant, democratic, and participative leadership can help leaders capitalize on positive charisma to lead change. Use theory studied on the various leadership styles to create an effective model for transformative social justice in higher education.
Leadership styles are the regular pattern of actions that a leader gets involved to fulfill their responsibilities.
Transformative Style of leadership-
In this, the leader makes the others work with their own example. They believe motivating positively to them will work better than motivating negatively.
Benefits-
1. Such leaders create vision quickly and share it with their employees.
2. Create enthusiastic and energetic environment to work
3. motivates them positively
Negatives-
1. It may lead to abuse (example Adolf hitler)
2. May overlook reality as it is visionary approach
3. can overlook details and thus require people who are detail oriented
Charisma is how well a person is able to have magnetic impact over others.
Charismatic leadership is when a person has influence over others for their charm and thus can lead well. An ethical leader would be partiular about rewards/punishment to all and thus have charisma for transforming leadership style. In democratic, the leader gives maximum power to employees, he emplowers them and thus have charisma for transforming leadership. Participative leader is one who doesn't belive in being boss, treats employees well and have a doffdiffe charisma amongst his followers and again jas charisma to bring about transformation leadership.
