The Ames Room Illusion is a famous illusion in psychology. In this illusion, two people of the same size appear to look of dramatically different sizes in a room. This illusion actually works because of the distorted shape of the room. While the room may appear to be of square shape, it is actually trapezoidal in shape. The observer is expected to see this room from a peephole. Thus, a person standing in one corner of the room is at a much bigger distance than the person standing in the other corner. The illusion helps to study the optical illusion and different perception in people. The psychological mechanism present here is perception. This illusion shows that the attitude of the observer can alter the way the observer perceives the illusion.
