It is a property of a substance and solutions to absorb one of two polarized component of transmitted light more strongly than other. In other words dichroic materials is one in which different polarized lights are absorbed in different amounts. The structure of material is an important aspect to exhibit dichroism. For dichroism, anisotropy is neceessry. The mineral Tourmaline and filaments of DNA exhibit dichroism.
