Genetically modified organisim is the one whose genomes has been modified by inserting desired gene of interest in its genome.

It is different from non-genetically modified organisms as the modified organisim will express that gene in the form of proteins and we will get out desired protein.

For example if you insert a insulin production gene in bacterial cell, it will divide and express insulin which we can isolate or we can directly clone this bacteria ditrctly into organisim that required insulin production.
