Why might a proposed taxonomic group be paraphyletic or polyphyletic?
The proposed taxonomic group will be paraphyletic or polyphyletic because a newly described taxonomic group will either include one ancestor and its some of the descendants or will not have any common ancestor. Thats why it is placed under paraphyletic group or popyphyletic group. If it includes a common ancestor with all of the descendants, then it is known as monophyletic. Otherwise, it is known by given two terms.
