In the Electrophilic aromatic substitution reaction of sulfonation, H2SO4 is used as a reagent.

Electrophilc species in this reaction is SO3, which can be formed by the loss of water from the sulfuric acid. It gets substituted to the aromatic compound.

This is the only reversible EAS reaction.
