The start dates right back to 1888 when an enterprising young man by the name of James H. McGraw bought the American Journal of Railway Appliances. Close by, in 1902, another astute investor by the name of John A. Hill founded the The Hill Publishing Company. Both men created history in 1909 when they came together to combine their respective book publishing businesses into The Mc-Graw Hill Book Company, which soon became the largest educational publisher in the United States.

A series of mergers and acquisitions later, with the corporate giant modifying its names from McGraw Hill Inc. (1964-1995), McGraw Companies (1995-2013) to McGraw Financial Inc. (1964-1995); it has finally come to be known as S & P Global Inc. since April of 2016.

Operating out of its Manhattan headquarters in New York city, S & P Global Inc. deals in financial information and analytics. An American public traded company, its last reported revenue was $6.036 billion (of 2017).
