Answer #1

species richness is refer to the number of the species in the per unit area. As the species richness increases species diversity also increases.

environmental disturbance limit the species number and these environmental disturbance are known as environmental resistance , they help to keep the species close or below to carrying capacity ( maximum number of species the environment can sustain ).

environmental disturbances in aquatic habitat are high temperature , high tides , stratification formation due to temperature , less oxygen for oxygenic species ( phytoplankton) and high interspecific or intraspecific competition.

optimal temperature , low tides and low water current, high primary productivity , low competition between or within species and habitat heterogeneity also increase species diversity.

1.Which of the following statements about species-accumulation curves is TRUE? Only gamma diversity can be estimated using species-accumulation curves Species-accumulation curves are a technique to estimate alpha diversity of a relatively homogenous site Species richness will be estimated correctly using species-accumulation curves even if there are only a few samples The order in which samples are processed will not affect the precise shape of species-accumulation curve 2. What describes the situation with the highest species richness? A new Island forms from an underwater volcano and lichens begin to grow. A tropical rainforest contains thousands to millions of species. A fire sweeps through a valley and many types of grasses begin to grow where a forest once stood. A hurricane sweeps through and destroys half the species in an area those remaining thrive.

Hello, I just need help answering these 2 questions. I am confused as to what I am supposed to do since they seem pretty straightforward but I do not want to get them wrong. Thank you. Exercise 3: Diversity and Spatial Scale Species diversity typically increases with greater area sampled or the scale of perception. For instance, you will tend to find the lowest number of species at local sites and the maximum number when a whole region is considered....
