Answer #1
  • The most common disorders in later adulthood are Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease and even Depression. With aging older adults do suffer from memory losses, slower information processing, decreased intellectual functioning, forgetting things, trembling of limbs etc.but these are a normal part of oldage. These problems become severe when they start affecting the normal functioing of the older adult thus resulting in disorders.
  • Alzheimer's disease is the most common cause of dementia, which is a continuous decline in thinking, behavioral and social skills that disrupts a person's ability to function independently. As the disorder progresses it will develop severe memory impairment and the older adult will lose the ability to carry out everyday tasks.
  • Parkinsons disease is a progressive nervous system disorder which affects movement of the older adult. As the disorder keeps progressing, the mild tremors in one part of the body become worse, some also experience stiffness or slowing of movement.Speech becomes slurred, posture may become stooped, body may lack balance which makes the person unable to sit or stand etc.
  • As a society its important to focus more attention towards aging adults.Better government policies, better treatments, good care homes, having book clubs, laughter clubs, exercise centers etc. for them.Family members should become more sensitive towards caring for their older people, and not lose patience with them.Spending time with them is most important.
