Instructions
The purpose of this assignment is for you to begin using diagramming software to create data flow diagrams (DFD) for a simple business process. For more information, please be sure to view Lecture 04 "Intro to Data Flow Diagrams (DFD)" and/or consult the following Sections in our text, Gelinas:
(Later, we will cover Ch 4, but we are only previewing a few sections now).
As with Assignment 01, if you already have diagramming software that you like to use (like Visio), then you should fee free to use that software instead. Although examples will be given using https://draw.io/, you may use any other diagramming software as long as it is able to produce similar-quality diagrams.
Required
Identify a simple business process. Using a word processor (like Google Docs, Pages, Word, etc.) create a Table of Entities & Activities (TEA) and from that draw two data flow diagrams: Context Diagram & Logical Data Flow Diagram (NOTE: In this assignment, you will NOT need to draw the Physical Data Flow Diagram).
Upload three items to this assignment:
To find a business process, open-up your Assignment 1 and revisit that business process. IF YOU CAN, please use that business process to create your TEA (table of entities & activities), context diagram & logical data flow diagram. Otherwise, if you cannot or do not want to use that business process, please simply think of another simple one.
The attachment "Assignment 2 SAMPLE.pdf" to this Assignment provides an example of #3. To receive full credit, you must upload a document like the sample PDF AND both of your source drawing files.
The Lecture "04 Intro Data Flow Diagrams" in Laulima's Modules for Week 2 Day 2 demonstrates one way to do this using https://draw.io/.
NOTE: Microsoft Visio may be the most well-known application in the category of diagramming software. Many professionals who make drawings use it. If you would like to use Microsoft Visio for this class, you may do so. However, there is a free website: https://draw.io/ that will be adequate for this class. Although all demonstrations will be given using this website, students are NOT required to use it. For the purposes of Assignments, if an assignment asks you to upload the "source .drawio" file and you used Visio (or some other diagramming software), you should upload your source ".vsd" ("Visio Drawing") file (or other source file) instead.
For a online mobile ordering system, Context diagram, logical flow diagram using a online diagram tool and TEA has been created using word document application and they are pasted here below as screen shots.
