There is a mutation in the tRNA anticodon since it has a sequence of 5'- UUA-3' but the regular tRNA anticodon sequence is 5'- AAA-3'. Does the mutation have an effect on translation? Explain if it would affect the proteins, how, and if all proteins would be affected.

The anticodon on transfer RNA has changed from 5' UUA 3' to 5' AAA 5'.

Normal tRNA = 3' AUU 5'

Mutated tRNA = 3' AAA 5'

To solve this question, we need the sequence of codon of mRNA from these two tRNAs.

Original mRNA = 5' UAA 3'

Mutated mRNA = 5' UUU 3'

Now lets know the amino acid being encoded by these mRNAs.

Original amino acid = stop (UAA is stop codon)

Mutated amino acid = phenylalanine

If the anti codon of the given transfer RNA is changed, then the amino acid will change from stop to phenylalanine. It means instead of termination of translation, the Protein synthesis will continue and instead of stop codon there will be a phenylalanine.

If this mutation is associated with all the protein than their normal termination will not occur. The length of all the proteins will increase because they will be translated more than they should be.
