Can Conflict can have both positive and negative influences on an organization. Is this type of conflict good for an organization or dysfunctional?

Head each section of your post to correspond to the numbers below:

      1.      Explain how eliminating waste can improve the organizations and create conflict. Use examples to support your reasoning.

2    Explain how some conflicts are dysfunctional, and why it is management’s responsibility to keep conflict intensity in some situations low. Use examples to support your reasoning.

Please remember that the original post on the discussion boards is for your researched thought. If you describe an opinion it should be grounded in citation and reference based research. The purpose of the assignment is for you to critically examine issues, using research as your foundation for your ideas. Ideas built from research create credibility with the reader. It also enhances your critical thinking as well as your own enlightenment. Many times we have an opinion that after we research the opinion we find that there is evidence of counter intuitive concepts that lead to new ways of looking at our original idea.

Do remember that it is not good form to use the first person in professional writing.

Answer #1
  1. Explain how eliminating waste can improve the organizations and create conflict. Use examples to support your reasoning.
  • Eliminating waste can be one of the most strategic business processes you can do for your company. Getting an outside look into your company can make you aware of waste that you did not know about or situations that you didn’t even know were causing waste. Eliminating the waste can create more revenue for the company, create opportunities, and build relationships. Eliminating waste can also create conflict though because it would change the process that someone is used to running. Most supervisors or owners believe they are running their organization or department to the best of their ability, and they do not like to be told they could be doing something a better way. This has the potential to create conflict within the organization. For example, someone who creates furniture may have been in business for years and it may even be a family business, but someone else could come in as an outsider and be experienced in a cheaper, more efficient, and faster process that uses less material and produces less waste. This would be an example of conflict.

2    Explain how some conflicts are dysfunctional, and why it is management’s responsibility to keep conflict intensity in some situations low. Use examples to support your reasoning.

  • Some conflicts are dysfunctional because they can create a bad atmosphere for everyone involved. It is management’s responsibility to keep conflict intensity low because it can create problems within employees which can create a communication barrier, as well as create an atmosphere where a good valued employee leaves. For example, there could be an employee who feels as if their work was the prized possession of the company. Someone could come in and tell them how to do their job differently and it could make them feel underappreciated and potentially leave if the news wasn’t delivered properly. It would be the management overall responsibility to make sure the news to delivered properly and actions aren’t taken out of hand.
