Improper distribution of chromosomes during mitosis can lead to aneuploidy which causes severe syndromes.

During prometaphase, microtubules attach to kinetochores of the chromosomes. In metaphase, chromosomes are aligned in the middle of the cell called metaphase plate. At this stage, if proper alignment of chromosomes do not occur, it causes damage to the cell.

If without properly completing the metaphase step, cells enter the anaphase, improper distribution of chromosomes may take place that leads to diseases. Improper cytokinesis can be fatal for cells.
