Answer #1

1) The phases of value chain (primary activities only) are Inbound Logistics (Supply Values Added Chain), Operations (Transformation process), Outbound Logistics (Distribution Added Value Chain), Marketing, and Services.

So the Supply Value added chain pertains to supply of raw materials and all the involved inbound logistics towards the plant, whereas Distribution Value Added Services pertain to movement of finished goods from manufacturing plant to warehouses,to cross docking to retailers and then to customers i.e. all the outbound logistics aspect.

But in the transformation phase, the real operations of manufacturing or transformation of raw materials into finished goods take place inside a plant or delivery of service takes place at a service center.

So the correct answer for "Which phase in the value added chain or value added stream shows how a product or service is mass produced?" is B) The transformation process

2) A run chart-time series chart is a time series chart wherein the entity to be measured say number of goods produced or defects observed is plotted against time. In this plot, the units to measured are in y axis and the time is always in the x axis, which shows how many units/events occurred in a given time. It is a line chart that displays discrete data in a continuous manner, thus also displaying the tends or any shifts in the discrete data over the time frame. It is prominently used as a TQM tool.

Thus the correct answer for "A TQM tool that shows time as the x-axis in a diagram is known as a" is A) Run Chart Time Series Chart
