You are an American traveling on business in the Middle East. As you are leaving country X, the passport control officer at the airport tells you there will be a passport "processing" delay of 12 hours. You explain that your plane leaves in 30 minutes, and the officials suggests that a contribution of $50 would probably speed things up. If you comply with the suggestion, have you violated U.S. law? Explain.

In the given situation the payment to make the process faster is known as a facilitating payment and according to US law it is not considered as bribery . This payment is the amount given to foreign officials to speed up the process and not to manipulate them in any way to change the result of the process. Also the amount is not a huge sum and hence it does not cross any limit . This is as per law and hence it is not a violation of US law.
