Answer #1

To explain the origin of eukaryotic cells, 'Endosymbiotic theory' was proposed by Lynn Margulis.

According to this theory, eukaryotes originated from prokaryotes. A small prokaryote ingested by a large prokaryote resisted intracellular digestion and retained within the cell. Over time, the prokaryote inside the cell behaved as an intracellular symbiont (endosymbiont). Eventually, it lost its autonomy and evolved into cell organelles such as mitochondria and chloroplast.

Evidence to support endosymbiotic theory:
There are several similarities between prokaryotes and cell organelles (Mitochondria and chloroplast)
1. Both possess a circular genome
2. Both possess 70s ribosomes
