Answer #1

in plant system source is site where CO2 is fixed and sugar is produce, sink is site where these sugars are store or utilize for growth and development.

a. pea plant with extended mature leaves, extensive root system, flowers and developing seed pods.

source = extended mature leaves ( mature leaves are active site of photosynthesis and produce sugar molecules)

sink= extensive root system, flowers and developing seed pods. (these are growing part of plant and for proper growth and development it need energy which is provided by leaves as well as seed and root store sugar for future use.

b. Potato plant with extended mature leaves, root system and developing tubers.

source = extended mature leaves ( mature leaves are active site of photosynthesis and produce sugar molecules)

sink = root system and developing tubers. (developing roots and tubers store sugar produced by leaves)

c. Mature potato tubers developing new shoots and roots in the spring.

source = Mature potato tubers (tuber store sugar and used for new plant development in next generation)

sink= developing new shoots and roots( developing shoot and root can not produce sufficient energy for fast growth so that these newly developed shoot and root used energy store in tubers)

d. A just germinated soybean seedling with fleshy cotyledons full of protein and fat, a developing root and an immature pair of first true leave

source =fleshy cotyledons full of protein and fat

sink = a developing root and an immature pair of first true leave
