Protein C carries a mutation that causes it to have an endoplasmic reticulum signal peptide at its N-terminus, and a nuclear localization sequence at its C-terminus. In which organelle is the translated protein going to end up? Why?

The mutant protein C is targeted to endoplasmic reticulum. Protein are synthesized from N to C terminus. Hence, N terminus is first synthesized. Presence of the N terminal signal peptide will direct the protein to the Endoplasmic reticulum. The N terminal signal peptide will direct it to the Endoplasmic reticulum as it is bound by signal recognition particle. As the nuclear localization sequence is present at C terminus, it is never used. Hence, the protein remains in ER and is not targeted to nucleus. Only protein that lack N terminal signal peptide remain in cytosol, from where they can enter the nucleus, if they have NLS.
