LIMK-2 ( LIM domain kinase 2) enzyme is the dual specificity kinases ( serine/threonine and tyrosine) which phosphorylates and inactivate cofilin( regulator of actin cytoskeleton dynamics). It regulates both actin filament and microtubule remodeling. LIMK2 has shown involvement in cancer development, metastasis, resistance of cancer cells to microtubule targeted treatments, neurological diseases and viral infection.
MNK1 is the serine/threonine kinase enzyme which plays role in the response to environmental stress and cytokines. It phosphorylates EIF4E ( eukaryotic initiation factor 4 E ) and thus increases its affinity for 7-methylguanosine containing mRNA cap. Hence it regulates translation.
MNK2 is the serine/threonine protein kinase enzyme which phosphorylates SFPQ/PSF, HNRNPA1 and EIF4E. It interacts with MAPK and eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4 gamma.
MNKs also plays role in cancer and metabolic diseases. MNK1 and MNK2 are isoforms of MNK .
