Types of genes which are involved in cancer development or progression as follows :

Proto oncogenes - genes for which a gain of function mutation drives cell towards cancer are called as proto oncogenes.

Oncogenes are widely conserved among diverse form of life.

Tumor suppressor genes - genes for which a loss of fumction mutation creates the cancer suppressor genes.

These genes were first recognised in inherited cancer.

Example -

BRCA 1 ,BRCA 2 ,P53

Gremlins mutations in BRCA 1 or BRCA 2 genes increase a woman's risk of developing hereditary breast or ovarian cancer and man's risk of developing hereditary prostate or breast cancer.
